The Tornadoes claim 9th win of the season

Booker T. Washington, the nation’s top ranked team, faced off against Norland High School on Thursday in a heavily one-sided match.

The Tornadoes came out on top form, leading 21-0 by the half.  Norland was able to find the scoreboard in the second half, but the damage was already done, Washington overpowered the Vikings 41-14.

Missing their U.S. Army All-American quarterback Treon Harris due to injury, Washington relied on junior Malik Atkins to lead the way.  Atkins completed 8 of 11 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns.  The backup also carried the ball six times for 65 yards and another score.

Atkins was superb, putting up a performance required to start for any top team in the country.  He showed that even after Treon Harris graduates at the end of the year, Booker T will still be a force to be reckoned with.

Advancing to 9-0, Booker T. Washington retains the #1 rank in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings.

The Tornadoes now prepare for their next game at Edison on Saturday, November 2.  This is their final regular season game of the year and Washington will be doing everything they can to finish at a perfect 10-0.

Player of the Game

Malik Atkins- 8-11, 230 yards, 3 TD, 6 rushes, 65 yards, 1 TD

Tornadoes defeat Miami rivals, Northwestern

Chalk up another win for DigitalSports’ top ranked team, Booker T. Washington.  After a slower than usual start, the Tornadoes pulled away from Northwestern High School, one of their Miami rivals, to win 21-9.

Though Northwestern does not hold a place in DigitalSports’ Top 100, Washington expected a tough game from the Bulls, and got just that.

With both offensive and defense linemen on the bench due to injuries, along with running back Mark Walton limited to only a few carries, Washington needed the whole team to step up their game.

Senior running back Krondis Larry led the team with 144 yards and a touchdown.  Larry found the endzone with only 2:57 remaining in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

In the air, Lamar Parker added on 129 receiving yards.  Washington finished with 427 offensive yards.

The Tornadoes’ defense kept them in the game.  Northwestern had scored 25 or more points in four of their previous five games.  On Friday, however, the Bulls scored a field goal in the first quarter, and did not add to that until their six points in the fourth.

Booker T. Washington, now at 6-0, prepares for their game against Gulliver Prep.  The game is on Thursday, October 17, with a 7:00p kickoff.

Key Players:

Krondis Larry- 144 rushing yards, 1 TD

Lamar Parker- 129 receiving yards

Top Ranked Booker T. Washington defeat #20 Bishop Gorman

Challenge after challenge, Booker T. Washington High School never seems to show any week points in their game.  The Tornadoes entered their game against 20th ranked Bishop Gorman with a 5-0 record and the top slot in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings.

Even with their long travel from Miami to Las Vegas, Washington did not miss a beat.  After scoring the first touchdown of the game, the Tornadoes continued pressing on the gas, leading 14-6 by the half.  Then, in a short change of momentum, Gorman’s running game stepped up to bring the Gaels within two points of Washington in the third quarter.

Going into the final quarter ahead only 14-12, the Tornadoes knew that they had to be flawless.  They were just that, starting with Terry Jefferson recovering a fumble to start the fourth.  After driving down field, senior quarterback Treon Harris rushed in from 11 yards out to make it 21-12.

Washington finished the game with one more touchdown when Treon Harris found Lamar Parker for a 35-yard score.  At the final whistle, Washington led the Gaels 28-12.

Harris finished with three passing touchdowns to add to his rushing score.  Lamar Parker complimented his touchdown with three catches for 65 yards.

Booker T. Washington, the #1 team in the nation, proved yet again why they are the best.  In their game against Monsignor Pace on September 27, the Tornadoes rolled over Pace, defeating them 49-7 in their District 8-4A opener.
