Booker T. Washington wins the Florida Class 4A Championship

After a long season as the No. 1 team in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings, Booker T. Washington capped off their incredible run with a 40-21 victory against Bolles High School in the Class 4A Florida state final on December 7.

The two teams played it close in the first quarter, Washington taking a 7-6 lead.  The second quarter was all Tornadoes, as Treon Harris found Terrawn McPhee and Deltron Hopkins for two of the three touchdowns Booker T. scored to take a 28-6 halftime lead.  Harris, a Florida State commit, finished with 226 yards and two touchdowns passing 15-of-27.

Not stopping there, Krondis Larry opened the third quarter up with a 45-yard touchdown rush just over a minute in.  Sophomore Mark Walton led the running back corps with two touchdowns of his own on 15 carries for 124 yards.

Washington’s defense was also stunning throughout the game.  Bolles averaged 38 points per game going into Saturday’s game.  Still the Tornadoes stopped the Bulldogs from gaining any offensive momentum throughout the game.

All over, Booker T. Washington played flawless football.  With the season coming to a close, Washington can head into the offseason as Florida’s state champions and the best team in the country.

Washington storms through the semifinals

It was business as usual for Booker T. Washington when they faced off against Cocoa High School on November 29.  The top team in DigitalSports National Football Rankings got start early and never left off the gas, taking a 49-10 victory in the Division 4A state semifinal game.

Wasting no time in getting start, the Tornadoes scored 28 points in the first quarter.  Led by the explosive force of Treon Harris, Washington continued their scoring spree endzone throughout the rest of the game.

Cocoa, who entered the game scoring over 40 points in their last nine games, struggled against Washington’s defense.  The Tigers did not make it onto the scoreboard until a field goal in the third.  In the fourth, Cocoa managed to punch in a touchdown, but the Tornadoes had already put the game far out of reach.

Harris, Washington’s all-star quarterback, finished with 11 completions on 16 passes for 225 yards and five touchdowns.  To add to it, Harris led Washington in rushing yards with 78 yards and a score in eight carries.

Lamar Parker, Harris’ favorite target in the game, caught five passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns.  Deltron Hopkins also had a pair of touchdowns on two catches from 36 and 22 yards out.

Washington now moves on to face Bolles High School in the state championship game.  Bolles’ offense has proven to be deadly, marking over 40 in seven of their thirteen games thus far.  Having shutdown top offenses in the past, Washington will not be easily intimidated, looking to seize the championship prize.
