Booker T. Washington Vs. Central Football Preview

Posted On: Friday, September 05, 2014
By: digitalsportsnews

The battle for Miami between Booker T. Washington and Central has become one of the biggest rivalries in high school football.  Every year, both programs produce top-notch squads, ranking among the elite in Florida and the entire country.  Last year, Washington claimed the game in a 28-17 victory

Booker T. Washington finished 1st in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings last year.  After losing a strong senior team from last year, the Tornadoes had to fill in some major roles.  So far, Washington has been excellent, trashing 89th ranked Oscar Smith 57-21 in their opener and following it up with a 19-7 win over Tucker.  The Tornadoes are currently rank 5th nationally by DigitalSports and 2nd in Florida.

Off to a strong start as well, Central first out lasted Alabama powerhouse Hoover 24-21, ending its 30-game win streak.  Then, Central narrowly defeated Stephenson 21-20.  The Rockets hold the 8th rank in the nation and 3rd in the Sunshine State.

Both teams have star players to look out for.  Senior Maurice Alexander, the quarterback who had to fill the big shoes of all star Treon Harris, has stepped up to his new role, throwing seven touchdowns in his first two games for Booker T.  Central’s senior running back Cedric Miller has proven to be untouchable, rushing for over 100 yards in the Rocket’s first two games thus far.

Should Washington win the game, the Tornadoes will snap Central’s 14-game win streak dating back to last year’s loss to Booker T.  Should Central win the game, the Rockets will snap Washington’s state-best 28-game win streak dating back to a 2012 loss to Central.

The two teams meet tonight, September 5, at 7:30 in an early season test.  This game may not only influence who the best team in the Miami is, but the best in the country, as it played a critical role in Booker T.’s No. 1 rank.
